May you be blessed. Because AW Tozer (April 21, 1897 - May 12, 1963) lived in the presence of God he saw clearly and he spoke as a prophet to the church. He sought for God's honor with the zeal of Elijah and mourned with Jeremiah at the apostasy of God's people. But he was not a prophet of despair. His writings are messages of concern. They expose the weaknesses of the church and denounce compromise. They warn and exhort. But they are messages of hope as well, for God is always there, ever faithful to restore and to fulfill His Word to those who hear and obey. Shortly before his death, Tozer wrote: "Another kind of religious leader must arise among us. He must be of the old prophet type, a man who has seen visions of God and has heard a voice from the Throne." I am convinced that Aiden Wilson Tozer himself was such a man. In his 1948 classic The Pursuit of God, Tozer challenged the stiff and wooden quality of many Christian lives. He noted: "Complacency is the deadly foe of all spiritual growth. Lately, as the fashion world does more and more to exploit women's bodies, women have lost much of the equal rights that they championed in the mid-20th Century. Of course, it has not been directly noticeable for it has been a slow process. In this process, we see a marketing of not clothes and fabrics, rather the marketing of women's bodies. Women who feel obligated to run their lives because of magazine covers and fashion harlots go through a ball and chain when they are trying to succeed in their schools and jobs. They have the brain capabilities to go through promotions, yet have to show off their body capabilities to "earn" those promotions. What has happened? 1400 years ago, Islam firmly placed equal right's upon women. Women had an aura of respect about them that was to be honored by all for they were the mothers of our children and the children are our future. The Quran says "O Prophet! tell thy wives and thy daughters, and the women of the believers, that they should pull down upon them of their outer cloaks from their heads over their faces. That is more likely that they may thus be recognized and not molested. And Allah is Most Forgiving, Merciful." (33:60). And through this, women will be seen as HUMAN beings and not as sex objects as seen in many societies today. The hijab and modest, loose clothing is not a new thing practiced by Islam. Charla Nash, the woman who was severely mauled on February 16,2009, by a friends pet chimpanzee, appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show. The chimpanzee weighed 200 pounds when it brutally attacked Nash, and left her face completely destroyed. Nash appeared on the talk show wearing a black veil. After talking with Oprah for a bit, Oprah asked if she would be willing to remove the veil. Nash had no objections and stated she was much stronger now and did not care what people saw. When she removed the veil, Oprah explained to her that her face would be all over the media. Nashs face is extremely disfigured. She lost both of her hands, her eyelids, nose, lips and the bony structure of her middle face. Nash says she is not in any pain, and does not remember the attack at all.
