This 34 year man came to my OPD with complain of pain in his left toe.I examined and found it to be ingrown toe nail left foot.I explained the patient about the disease and the need for surgery.Patient agreed for surgery under local anaesthesia. Here In this video I have shown my technique of removal on nail completely under local anaesthesia in cases of ingrown toenail. After removal the nailbed requires alrenate day dressing and wound care. Ingrown toenail is a common disease problem of nail, because of neglected nail care.It starts with a inflammation process of nail followed by granuloma formation and the nail get buried inside the granuloma.Its otherwise called Onychocryptosis. Patient usually complains of pain in margin of the nail which get worsen with tight footware.even to slightest pressure over the area.Usually associated with infection with redness ,often pus point beneath the nail. Causes of ingrown toenail- inappropriate footware. Bad nail care -Inappropriate cutting of nail leading to nail growth into the side skin fold. Trauma to nail plate or toe.any injury causes nail to pierce the skin or nail bed starting the process of inflammation. Associated bacterial infection. Prevention- nail care -- nail to be cut straight, not in a curve or not too short.never cut nail shorter than the flesh beneath.this prevent nail to grow within the tissue. Avoid use of footwear which is too short or narrow toe box. Proper care of foot to prevent infection.
