Hieronymus Bosch
Hieronymus Bosch,(c. 1450 -- August 9, 1516) was an Early Netherlandish painter of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Many of his works depict sin and human moral failings. Bosch used images of demons, half-human animals and machines to evoke fear and confusion to portray the evil of man. The works contain complex, highly original, imaginative, and dense use of symbolic figures and iconography, some of which was obscure even in his own time. Bosch produced several triptychs, works of three paintings on wooden panels that are attached to each other. Among his most famous is The Garden of Earthly Delights. This triptych depicts paradise with Adam and Eve and many wondrous animals on the left panel, the earthly delights with numerous nude figures and tremendous fruit and birds on the middle panel, and hell with depictions of fantastic punishments of the various types of sinners on the right panel. When the exterior panels are closed the viewer can see, painted in grisaille, God creating the Earth. These paintings have a rough surface from the application of paint; this contrasts with the traditional Flemish style of paintings, where the smooth surface attempts to hide the fact that the painting is man-made. Bosch never dated his paintings and may have signed only some of them (other signatures are certainly not his). Fewer than 25 paintings remain today that can be attributed to him. Philip II of Spain acquired many of Bosch's paintings after the painter's death; as a ...

Hieronymus Bosch's Art
Hieronymus Bosch (c. 1460-1518), the name generally given, from his birthplace Hertogenbosch, to Hieronymus van Aeken, the Dutch painter. Hieronymus Bosch was born Hieronymus (or Jeroen, respectively the Latin and Middle Dutch form of the name "Jerome") van Aken (meaning "from Aachen"). He signed a number of his paintings as Bosch (pronounced Boss in Middle Dutch). The name derives from his birthplace, 's-Hertogenbosch, which is commonly called "Den Bosch". He was probably a pupil of Albert Ouwater, and may be called the Breughel of the 15th century, for he devoted himself to the invention of bizarre types, diableries, and scenes of the kind generally associated with Breughel, whose art is to a great extent based on Bosch's. He was a satirist much in advance of his time, and one of the most original and ingenious artists of the 15th century. He exercised great influence on Lucas Cranach, who frequently copied his paintings. His works were much admired in Spain, especially by Philip II, at whose court Bosch painted for some time. One of his chief works is the Last Judgment at the Berlin gallery, which also owns a little St Jerome in the Desert. The Fall of the Rebellious Angels and the St Anthony triptych are in the Brussels museum, and two important triptychs are at the Munich gallery. The Lippmann collection in Berlin contains an important Adoration of the Magi, the Antwerp museum a Passion, and a practically unknown painting from his brush is at the Naples museum ...

Paintings of Hieronymus Bosch
Bosch's pictures have always fascinated viewers, but in earlier centuries it was widely assumed that his diabolic scenes were intended merely to amuse or titillate, most people regarded him as "the inventor of monsters and chimeras'. Philip II, though, collected his works more for education than for entertainment. A Dutch art historian in the early 17th century described Bosch's paintings chiefly as 'wondrous and strange fantasies... often less pleasant than gruesome to look at'. In the 20th century, however, scholars decided that Bosch's art has a more profound significance, and there have been many attempts to explain its origins and meaning. Some writers saw him as a sort of 15th century surrealist and linked his name with that of Salvator Dali. For others, Bosch's art reflects mysterious practices of the Middle Ages. No matter what explanation and comprehension of his art might be, Bosch remains the most extravagant painter of his time. Music: Mozart's requiem: Lacrimosa

Favorite Artists - Hieronymus Bosch
Dutch artist Hieronymus Bosch was born in 's-Hertogenbosch in 1450, long before Columbus set sale for the Far East by heading west. And Bosch was centuries ahead of his time. Did you ever wonder what influences drove Joan Miro and Salvador Dali? Take a look at these Bosch paintings and you'll get an idea. Most painters of Bosch's time were painting saints and holy figures wreathed in halos among gilded thrones and hovering angels. Bosch, fascinated by monsters and the concept of hell, labored over dark renditions of the underworld, black demons, floating fish, and men with flutes stuffed up their bottoms. He died in 1516, 42 years before Queen Elizabeth I was born. Music is "Night on Bald Mountain," by Modest Mussorgsky.

The Garden of Earthly Delights (Hieronymus Bosch
Hieronymus Bosch; Jeroen Bosch; Jheronimous Bosch; Jeroen van Aken; Jeroen van Aeken; Jerome van Aken; Jeroen Anthoniszoon; Jheronimus van Aeken; El Bosco... All these names for an artist who was so famous that he could use the name of his hometown, and everyone new who he was. Probably born in 1450 and died in 1516. (Den Bosch or 's Hertogenbosch) Member of the Brotherhood of Our Lady. Accused of drugsabuse, insanity and being a member of a cult (The Adamites) (Adamieten) At the age of 13 he survived a huge fire in which some 4000 houses went up in flames. That could be the reason why he painted so many fires into his art. Most of the symbols he used in his paintings are long forgotten, so it is hard to understand their meaning. Jheronimus is ofthen seen as the godfather of surrealism. Most of his collection remains in Spain, for king Filip II of Spain adored his paintings. Some of his altar-pieces where taken by catholic priests and never seen again. His triptychs received comments like sick jokes and unexplainable even in his own days. And there where rumors that Jheronimus could see into the future. One of his nicknames is "le Faizeur de Dyables" The images of Hieronymus or Jheronimous Bosch are mostly described as horrific representations, torments of Hell, diabolic scenes and apocalyptic pictures inhabited by half- human half- animal creatures Biography by Web Gallery of Art www.wga.hu link to Bosch universe www.jheronimusbosch-artcenter.nl Due to copyright i had to ...

Hieronymus Bosch - The Seven Deadly Sins...
First off I appologise for the misspellings, for some reason my software cut the last letters of of some of the words.... Hieronymus Bosch - The Seven Deadly Sins and the Four Last Things. Two scrolls with Latin verses from the Book of Deuteronomy warn of the consequences of sin. The first (32: 28-29) reads "For they are a nation void of counsel, neither is there any understanding in them," and the second: "O that they were wise, that they understood this, that they would consider their latter end!" The central circle is larger than the others and looks like an eye. In its pupil appears Christ, Man of Sorrow and the phrase "Beware, Beware, God sees!" The Four Last Things: Mortis- Death Permaneo Censura- the Last Judgement Gloria Abyssus- Hell (there are several annotations in the "Hell" Section; They depict the punishments for the Seven Deadly Sins: For Gluttony a man is fed snakes and frogs, For Envy men are pulled apart by dogs, For Anger a man is being flayed 'alive', For Lust a man and a woman are perpetualy tormented in bed by demons, For Pride a man and woman are tormented by a demon with a mirror, For Sloth a man is held down near a furnace and beaten with either a hammer or a firebrand, and for Greed one man is roasted on a spit while the others a boiled in a cauldron while a demon spits coins at them.) Its outer ring shows the seven deadly sins with genre scenes depicting the customary vices of that period. Ira- Anger Invida- Envy Avarcia- Greed Gula- Gluttony ...

Buckethead - Spokes for the Wheel of Torment (best quality)
This is Buckethead's video for 'Spokes for the Wheel of Torment' from the album 'The Cuckoo Clocks of Hell'. It was directed by Syd Garon and Eric Henry featuring additional artwork by Frankenseuss. Full credits at the end of the video. It is based on the works of Hieronymus Bosch, namely 'The Garden of Earthly Delights' triptych, 'The Last Judgement' triptych, the 'Paradise and Hell' triptych and 'The Temptation of St Anthony' triptych. This song is not 'Beaten With Sledges'. It seems there's a mis-tagged version of the album floating about the net. Uploaded due to the other versions available on youtube having sound that was either very quiet and tinny or loud but distorted. Ripped from Buckethead's dvd 'Secret Recipe'. Obviously if you want this video in it's full quality, i'd recommend buying the dvd as youtube has it's limitations. I hope you enjoy, and please support Buckethead through buying his releases. www.bucketheadland.com www.tdrsmusic.com - Buckethead cds www.buckethead.tk - Buckethead forum
