Disharmonic Orchestra - The Return of the Living Beat
Disharmonic Orchestra was/is an Austrian Grindcore/ Progressive Death Metal/ Avantgarde Metal band, founded Klagenfurt of Carinthia in 1987. The first three demos of the band "Requiem for the Forest", "The Unequalled Visual" and "Hypophysis Rehearsal" was recorded in 1988. 1989 they were featured on a Nuclear Blast split release with Pungent Stench. EP "Successive substitution" was released through Nuclear Blast in 1989. The band recorded and released their first full-length "Expositionsprophylaxe" in 1990 through Nuclear Blast. After the "Mind Seduction" single, the band recorded and their second full-length "Not to be Undimensional Conscious" in Swedish Sunlight Studios with assistance of Tomas Skosberg in 1992. The album was released by Nuclear Blast. On this album, the style of the band had chanced from share Grindcore to more something, that could be described as Progressive Death Metal. On their next, third release "Pleasuredome" of 1994, the band's musical style had once more changed, now to Avantgarde metal. The album was released by Nuclear Blast. Soon after the release of their third album, the band split up. The reunion of the band was commited in 2001, and thereafter, the band has recorded and released whole new album "Ahead", continueing on the same route as "Pleasuredome". Made up of Highgrade Records bosses Tom Clark and Todd Bodine, plus label staples Philip Bader, Daniel Dreier and Dale, Highrade Disharmonic Orchestra is a live collective that's all about improvisation: in the studio and onstage, the artists sync up their five laptops with a few synths and drum machines and jam, coming up with arrangements on the fly. The project debuted last year (with a slightly different lineup) at Highrade's 10th anniversary party at Watergate, and put out an EP called Second Wind earlier this year. Tom Clark, Todd Bodine, Philip Bader, Dale and Daniel Dreier are an act that combines all their many and varied qualities into one pot, stirring vigorously and serving up a hearty dish that goes straight to the hips! They have proven many times with their live performance that the musical ingredients are just right -- and have also put the evidence on the record with an original EP. Now comes the follow up. The first track "Way Too Far", is a Live recording which evokes an atmosphere of urban beats and pulsating flashes just behind the eyes and a dancing crowd who appear to sink deep into the dance floor. Then there's a complete chance of scene for the second track "The Other Night", that appears to hijack the veranda of a villa in the American South. Crisp rhythms are backed by muffled thumping beats, a trumpet laments, a sexy sleep-talking emerges in gentle piano sounds. This is Southern passion under the disco ball, cleverly approximated by the Highgrade Disharmonic Orchestra!
