Accelerator - Cyclotron
A cyclotron is a circular particle accelerator, a type of machine to electrically charged (sub) atomic particles (mainly ions, atomic nuclei) to provide a high speed. The accelerated particles can be used for irradiating a removable internal target (target) or delivered in an external beam for the controlled execution and observation of any collision processes. Speeding done by the charged particles (usually from an ion source) after injection in the center of a cylindrical vacuum box to submit to a combination of a vertically oriented magnetic field and a high frequency alternating electric field, which creates a horizontal acceleration. The magnetic field exerts a Lorentz force on the particles, making it a horizontal circular orbiting. Thus, groups rag remaining particles constantly exposed to the electric field, while still reverses direction during the orbital period of half a group of particles. At each passage, the electrical polarity so that the acceleration occurs over. The magnetic field is generated by a strong electromagnet with circular poles. OpenTTD Cyclotron
1 way mainline priority T-junction with cyclotron injecting trains into 2 separate lanes. The "cyclotron" is a holding loop keeping the train's momentum intact when both lanes are occupied. If a train has to stop at a junction, it will take time to accelerate to full speed again and chances are it will slow down trains on the mainline, particularly if its quite full, causing a chain reaction of slowdowns. Presignals are used to block the path to the mainline lane(s) that are occupied. Can be extended to handle 4 lanes on the other side of the cyclotron. There is a second holding loop in case a second train arrives to the cyclotron, more can be added if needed. There is a small chance the train will stop in case the chosen lane gets occupied while passing through the selector section of the holding loop, so it is not fault free. Also note this cyclotron is only useful for powerful enough trains and using the original acceleration algorithm (not used by default, so you have to switch it on in the advanced settings/trains.) Water-timer Cyclotron
Cyclotrons - everyone's making them now, to save on gold costs. However, the delay circuits cost a zillion redstone instead. Regloh figured out a way to use a dispenser as a cheap replacement for a timer. Nice! Now we just have to deal with the string shortage in our peaceful world. Note that the time delay on the rivers could be shortened simply by putting the plate closer to the water source. Also, I could have made the first river longer (dropping a level) - the second dispenser just made testing easier. I won't swear that the long-loop and short-loop cyclotrons in the video are truly the same in performance, just that in this configuration they seemed to be. Ball Cyclotron (electrostatic accelerator)
This device demonstrates some of the functions of a particle accelerator. The particle in this case is a ping pong ball coated with conductive paint. The copper foil electrodes are fed by a 15KV DC power supply. The acrylic bowl (actually a custom-made shape) keeps the ball moving repeatedly over the electrodes and serves the same function as the magnets in a "real" accelerator. When the voltage is first turned on, the ball touches the electrodes in the center and therefore acquires the same charge polarity, so it is repelled from that strip and attracted to one of the other opposite polarity strips. Once the ball contacts this other strip however, it gets charged in the other polarity so it's repelled by that strip and attracted to the next one and the process repeats. The ball rides up the side as the speed increases, until the accelerating force is balanced by air resistance. In a "real" accelerator the particle keeps the same polarity of course, and the electrode polarity is flipped in time with the passage of the particles. This concept was developed by Dr. AD Moore in the 1960's. This device is merely an updated refinement of his very clever work. (Built in ~2007 and should have been uploaded a long time ago!)

Fourier Transform Ion Cyclotron Resonance Mass Spectrometry
FTICR-MS: Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry. An MS configuration that detects signals on metal plates from electrical currents produced by ion oscillations. The hallmark of FT-MS is its high resolution; 1-2 ppm mass accuracy or lower can be achieved. A drawback is the long cycle time required for acquisition of MS and particularly MS/MS spectra. Fourier transform analysis consists of determining the ion cyclotron resonances (which refers to the number of orbits completed/sec), not by scanning slowly through the spectrum as a function of frequency, but by recording the oscillating charge induced in a detector plate by orbiting ions as they approach and recede from that plate. FT of that time-domain data then yields ALL of the cyclotron frequencies at once, for a time saving by a factor of ~10000. The FTICR-MS consists of an ion source, some ion optics to transfer the ions into the magnetic field, and the Ion Cyclotron Resonance (ICR) cell or Penning trap. After ion's are trapped in the ICR cell, they are excited by a resonant excitation pulse into a coherent orbit. The excitation amplifier is then turned off and the ions continue to orbit at their final radius. Ions moving near electrodes cause an image charge to form on these electrodes to balance the ions' electric field. In the case of a circular orbit, this image charge will oscillate at the ion's resonant frequency, and can be detected by a sensitive preamplifier circuit, digitized, and ...
